All modern websites are coded in html and css and these web standards are defined by an organisation called W3C. Having a W3C web standards compliant website is the best way to make sure that your website will keep on working in the future. Valid code is important for accessibility (a legal requirement in the UK), and is a good indicator of how accessible your website will be on a variety of different devices. When you employ a website designer to build your new website make sure that it's going to be mobile friendly, fast loading and standards compliant - asking your designer to make sure it passes the above tests are a good way to achieve this. Your designer will hate us for suggesting this, but you'll get a better website.
